Unemployment fell to 13%

Unemployment in our country continues to decline, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic (although people who are suspended from a contract are still considered employed).

As it appears from the latest data published by Greek statistical authority, the unemployment rate in the third quarter of this year was reduced to 13%, from 15.8% in the second quarter and from 16.2% in the corresponding period of 2020.

THE The number of unemployed amounted to 615,390 people, showing a decrease of 16% compared to the previous quarter and 18.6% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

THE number of employees amounted to 4,118,332 people showing an increase of 5.2%, compared to the previous quarter and 4.9%, compared to the same period last year.

Individuals who are not included in the workforce or “persons outside the workforce”, ie the number of people who are not working or looking for work amounted to 4,329,768 people. In particular, the number of people out of the workforce under the age of 75 amounted to 3,130,103 people. Their percentage decreased by 2.9% compared to the previous quarter and by 2.5% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Among other things, ELSTAT in its announcement points out that the data of the research show that In relation to the third quarter of 2020, absenteeism from work increased while working hours per week were reduced accordingly.

He also notes that based on Eurostat guidelines for Manpower Survey in the Member States, due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) pandemic, people who are suspended from a contract are still considered employed if the duration of the suspension is less than 3 months.
