Italy: 12,527 new coronavirus cases with 79 deaths


In the last 24 hours in Italy, the new cases of coronavirus are 12,527 and 79 people lost their lives.

In total, 312,828 diagnostic tests were performed, 4% of which were positive. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of infections in the country is 5,164,780, with 134,551 deaths. There are 811 patients with covid 19 in the intensive care units of the country, while there are 6,333 in the hospital wards.

According to the Gimbe Scientific Foundation, in the week of December 1-7, compared to the previous seven days, the cases increased by 22.4%, the deaths by 12%, while the admissions to the hospital wards increased by 16.3% and in ICUs by 13.6%.

At the same time, the number of people receiving the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine increased by 31.7%. This is due, according to commentators, to the new, stricter measures of the “super green pass”. The administration of the booster doses, marked a spectacular increase, of 52.6%.

Finally, the Italian Medicines Agency announced that from the end of January 2022, the two antiviral pills, molnupiravir and paxlovid, of the companies Merck and Pfizer, will be available in the country, which will be used to fight the coronavirus.
