Former United States President Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court today to ban the release of White House files requested by a House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
What the Columbia Court of Appeal had ruled
Two weeks ago, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ruled that there was no legal basis to oppose President Joe Biden’s decision to allow the documents to be handed over. The execution of this decision is postponed until the Supreme Court rules on the matter.
Biden believed that the files, which belong to the executive branch of power, were not subject to the rule of secrecy of certain internal documents of the White House and their delivery to Congress was in the interest of the nation.
