Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic tested positive for Covid-19 after coming into contact with a case of the disease, his office announced tonight.
“The president has mild symptoms and is feeling well. “Based on the epidemiological measures, he will remain in self-isolation and will perform his presidential duties,” reads the announcement posted on the presidency’s website.
Djukanovic, 59, has led Montenegro, either as president or prime minister, for three decades.
He is expected to run for re-election in the 2023 elections.
So far, in Montenegro, a country of 620,000 inhabitants, 161,944 cases of the new coronavirus have been recorded and 2,385 people have died.
