China: High altitude wind farm in Tibet has started operating


The first batch of electricity generators at a high-altitude wind farm in the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China began generating electricity and was connected to the power grid on Wednesday.

The energy park is located at an altitude of 4,850 meters in the self-governing town of Trigou in Komai County, while it was funded by the Chinese consortium Three Gorges Corporation and designed and built by the energy construction company POWERCHINA Chengdu Engineering Corporation Limited.

The installation of the power generation infrastructure started in May and was completed in October, with a total installed capacity of 22 megawatts of electricity.

The mentioned wind farm is an energy, research facility at high altitude, which is expected to play a key role in local economic and social development, but also in improving local energy infrastructure, as well as in promoting the local tourism industry.
