The number of SARS-CoV-2 cases confirmed in 24 hours in Israel has reached 1,400, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday, the highest level in the last two months, as the country is affected by a new wave of the pandemic.
This was the highest number since October 18, when more than 1,500 infections were reported, bringing the total to 1,360,098.
At the same time, 4 more patients died due to complications of COVID-19, increasing the death toll to 8,239 dead, according to the ministry.
The so-called active cases reached 9,591, a level that is the highest since November 1, while it was less than 5,400 at the beginning of December.
The number of critically ill patients in hospitals has increased to 83.
The virus replication index (R0) rose to 1.34, while it was at 0.73 in early November. When this index is above 1, an exponential increase in infections is threatened.
