Russia fined Meta Platforms 23.9 million euros


Russian court imposed a fine of 1.99 billion rubles on Friday (EUR 23,398,997 million ) in Meta Platforms because it has repeatedly failed to delete content that Russia considers illegal, the press service of the Moscow courts announced.

Earlier, Moscow’s Tagansky court announced that it had fined Google’s Alphabet 7.2 billion rubles (78.5 million euros) for failing to systematically remove content that Russia considers to be banned.

Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor says US companies Meta Platforms and Google are facing new turnover fines for failing to remove content that is considered banned in Russia.

“At the moment, no more than 2,000 content has been removed from Facebook and Instagram,” the regulator said in a statement, noting that “no more than 2,600 contents have been removed from Google’s platform.”
