Professor Dimopoulos: “It is a myth that Omicron is the flu”

The rector of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of the Therapeutic Clinic of the Medical School of EKPA, Professor of Hematology-Oncology, Athanasios Dimopoulos, spoke on Nikos Hatzinikolaou’s show on Realfm 97.8

Mr. Dimopoulos said that “There is evidence that exposure to Omicron, and subsequent immunity, may cover the Delta as well.. We are waiting for more information about this, but the initial presentations that are made at the research level and in the laboratory show that this is possible “.

“The data from South Africa showed that we had a rapid de-escalation. Data from the United Kingdom, which is ahead of Omicron in terms of us, clearly show a flattening and a downward trend. Of course, the same must happen here. ” he added.

Finally, Mr. Dimopoulos stressed how “It is very important to avoid infection with Omicron as much as possible, because on the one hand it is a myth that it is the flu on the other hand it is another thing to have 1 million people who will be infected within 15 days and another thing to happen within 2 months. The pressure that will be exerted on health structures in general is completely different”.
