Italy – Bishop “shatters” childhood dreams – “There is no Santa Claus, it is a product of fantasy”

The Catholic Bishop of the city of South, Sicily, Antonio Staliano, in his statements to the newspaper La Repubblica, referred to the celebration of Christmas and to what he considers to be its main and authentic significance.

“I want to ask Santa Claus: why, every year, do you bring gifts only to rich children, who keep them only for themselves and could – anyway – get them?” said the bishop from Lower Italy.

At the same time, he underlined that “Santa Claus is a person born of the human imagination, while Saint Nicholas, from Myra in Asia Minor, was a real historical figure” and “brought gifts that had nothing to do with the current consumer dimension ».

“Saint Nicholas, as we all know, gave gifts only to poor children. And, of course, at Christmas the central figure is Jesus who is born in Bethlehem and tells every child: do what you can, so that no one is born like me, does not get cold and does not tremble, in a cave ” concluded by Bishop Antonio Staliano.
