The British government today announced additional measures to address its spread Omicron variant, including extension of booster vaccination to those over 30 years of age from tomorrow, Monday.

From the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, fully vaccinated contacts of people who test positive for Covid-19 will also be required to perform diagnostic tests daily for seven days, while those who are not vaccinated will have to remain in isolation for ten days, the Ministry of Health announced. .

“The Omicron variant is rapidly gaining ground in the United Kingdom and is expected to become the dominant figure by mid-December,” Health Minister Sajid Javid said in a statement, explaining that the new measure was aimed at “reducing the impact on daily life.” of people while helping to limit the spread of Omicron ”.

Javid also called on the population to be vaccinated or to take the booster dose “as soon as possible”.

The government plans to offer a third dose of the vaccine to anyone over the age of 18 by the end of January and has announced that from tomorrow, Monday, those over the age of 30 will be able to make an appointment to take this booster dose.

These announcements are added to new measures introduced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, including the return to telework and access to certain places only with a health certificate.

These measures will be put to a vote in the parliament the day after tomorrow, Tuesday. They are expected to be adopted with the support of the opposition Labor Party.

In London, one third of Covid-19 cases are in the Omicron variant.
