France: Woman dies in ICU with fake vaccination certificate – Investigations with 400 “targets”

France is investigating 400 “networks” that provided fake health cards for COVID-19, the interior minister said, as virus-related hospitalizations were on the rise across the country.

The case of a woman who died in a Paris hospital after showing a fake vaccine certificate is on the front pages. The head of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit said they would give the woman immediate treatment with antibodies if they knew that she was not vaccinated.

Authorities have identified thousands of counterfeit COVID-19 health cards used throughout France, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told RTL radio on Sunday. He said the investigations were also directed against some “associated with health professionals”.

The government is tightening the rules for folds, which are required to enter all restaurants and in an increasing number of events and venues.

For the pass, citizens must provide proof of complete vaccination, a negative 24-hour test or a certificate of recent recovery from COVID-19.

And France is stepping up efforts to booster dose to reduce the pressure on hospitals. Half of the French intensive care units are occupied by patients with the virus, while more than 100 deaths are announced every day.

The government has closed nightclubs and stepped up social distancing measures, but is trying to avoid new lockdown. Health Minister Olivier Veran told Le Parisien that while “the wave of the epidemic is violent”, there are signs of recession with 90% of people over 65 having a booster dose.
