THE Britain raised the alarm level due COVID-19 responding to rapid spread of the variant Ομικρον of coronavirus, as medical authorities warned that hospitalizations are likely to increase sharply in the coming weeks.
Leading medical officials in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have recommended raising the alert level 4 from Level 3 on a five-point scale, which means they expect the virus to be highly contagious.
“Early indications are that Omicron is spreading much faster than the Delta and that vaccine protection against Omicron’s vaccine is reduced,” medical officials said in a joint statement.
“The data on the severity will become clearer in the coming weeks, but hospitalizations from Omicron are already being recorded and they are likely to increase rapidly.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to address a televised address at 22:00 Greek time where he will refer to the campaign for the issuance of commemorative doses.
“Booster doses of both vaccines – Pfizer and Moderna – significantly increase the immune response and show good efficacy although with some reduction compared to Delta,” said medical officials.
Level 5 – the highest level of alert – would mean that the healthcare system is in danger of flooding.
