Italy: Fine mammoth on Amazon

The Italian competition authority imposed a fine of 1.13 billion euros on Amazon for abusing its dominant position in the market, causing a blow to its competitors in the service of e-commerce logistics.

The Italian Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) said it had also imposed management-monitored conduct and stressed that Amazon’s conduct was “particularly serious”.

The regulator launched an investigation in 2019 due to concerns that Amazon provided vendors, using its logistics service called “Fulfillment by Amazon”, with better opportunities to appear as Amazon’s choice for users looking for a product that appears in a separate section. of its website, in the “buy box”.

At the end of November, the Italian authority had already imposed fines on Amazon and Apple for collusion in the sale of Apple products.
