Υπ. Education: If the slightest thing happens at school automatically the prosecutor should be informed
To appeal immediately at prosecutors authorities urges the Ministry of Education their managers of schools, both if any nuisances to the school community by people who react to the implementation of health protocols, as well as in cases of pandemic deniers who do not send their children to school.
“We informed the teachers that if the slightest thing happens at the school, the Prosecutor should be informed automatically. We legislate, not to have laws, but to be observed and those who are illegal must have the consequences of their actions, the sanctions provided by law “, said the Secretary General of Primary, Secondary Education and Special Education of the Ministry of Education and Religions Alexandros Koptsis, on the occasion of the incident at Aigini High School, which he characterized as “unthinkable, disgusting and condemnable”.
“Not only do we condemn it, we are angry with it, because it turns against people like the director of Aigini High School who does an excellent job, obeys the law, preserves the health of the students, and yet he came under such attack. We will not tolerate such acts of violence in any case “, said Mr. Koptsis in the context of a press conference in Thessaloniki, announcing at the same time that the Ministry of Education will soon bring to Parliament a legislative framework for the prevention and treatment of violence in the school environment .
“The minister will announce it, we are preparing a structure that will permeate the entire education system – from the school unit to the region and the Ministry of Education. We will have teacher training, updates on both prevention and treatment and other bodies such as social workers, psychologists will be involved. “We want to create a culture of violence prevention, we do not see this in fragments,” he explained.
Regarding the students whose parents do not send them to school, as they refuse to apply the health protocols, Mr. Koptsis said that there are a little more than 100 nationwide. He clarified that after the legislation, which provides that anyone who has custody or actual care of a minor and fails to register or supervise his / her attendance, is punished with imprisonment of up to years and a fine. “The school principal calls the parents, gives them a written notification about their legal obligation and then sends the matter to the prosecutor, the prosecutor is addressed because he goes beyond the limits of pedagogical treatment.”
Regarding the treatment of students in these cases, he noted that absences are counted normally and the limit provided at each level applies, because “the law can not be disregarded, for some parents who make these criminal mistakes.”
Referring to the epidemiological picture and the vaccination coverage in the school community, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education said that the data are particularly encouraging for the smooth continuation of the educational process.
Specifically, he said that the vaccinated teachers have exceeded 86% of the total, and respectively the High School students 50% and the High School students 30%, while the Ministry starts informative events all over the country for the vaccination of the primary school students.
According to the data of the Ministry in the last three weeks there is a tendency to reduce the cases of covid-19 in the school community, where at the moment it is suspended 2 out of 10,000 departments and the cases in students are in a ratio of 1 to 1000.
