0

THE Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlüt Tsavousoglou announced tonight that his country and Armenia will appoint special envoys who will undertake to discuss the steps for smoothing of relationships their.

According to Tsavousoglou, charter flights between Istanbul and Yerevan will also resume.

Armenia and Turkey signed a peace agreement in 2009 to restore relations and reopen their borders, for the first time in decades. However, this agreement was never ratified and relations between the two countries remained tense. During the war in Nagorno-Karabakh last year, Ankara backed Azerbaijan and accused Armenia of occupying Azerbaijani territory.

During the discussion of his ministry’s budget in the National Assembly, Tsavusoglu also said that Turkey would coordinate efforts to normalize Armenia’s relations with Azerbaijan.
