South Korea: 71 dead and over 40,000 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours


South Korea has reported 40,064 new cases of coronavirus and 71 deaths in the last 24 hours. Mortality rate remained unchanged at 0.13%.

The number of cases increased compared to 39,600 the previous day and 37,761 last Sunday. However, the spread of the virus has slowed since March 17, when a record 620,000 infections were recorded, the peak of the wave due to the more infectious Omicron variant, in particular the BA subtype.

The number of patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in critical condition, a key indicator, increased to 423 (+4 in 24 hours).

86.8% of the population (52 million inhabitants) of South Korea has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 64.7% have received booster doses, according to official data.
