Cyprus: They tortured kittens and hung them at school

One horrific incident occurred in Nicosia schoolwhere according to an announcement published on its official website by the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, kittens were tortured to death.

According to the relevant announcement of the Ecologists’ Movement, a complaint received by the party states that “on 05/05/2022 at Idali High School in Nicosia province, people spray-painted defenseless kittens and then used their blood to write on the walls and then they hung them. “School staff and some children took care of the kitten in question, who was pregnant, and when she gave birth, they took care of Manuela and her three kittens.”

Ecologists also note that “this barbaric and heinous criminal act seems to have been committed by people who knew about the existence of the kitten and her cubs. The fact that the kittens were previously spray-painted shows a premeditated crime. The criminal act is being investigated by the Nicosia Animal Police.

As the Ecologists ‘Movement – Citizens’ Cooperation, we ask the competent authorities to fully investigate another tragic incident involving the killing of animals and to bring justice to those who tortured and killed them. We also call on anyone who knows anything about this case to immediately inform the Police.

Behavior of harming animals, whether it is a child or an adult, is a clinical symptom of specific mental disorders. It is also confirmed that people who learn to abuse animals from an early age then later as adults, will show some form of interpersonal violence. Conversely, children who learn to care for animals are more likely to develop compassion and empathy for others.

It is the duty of the family and the state, through schools, to cultivate respect for animals. “Once again we emphasize the need to include short-term hospitality lectures in schools.” “These atrocities against animals must finally stop. “If we want to be called a civilized people, we must respect every form of life and especially animals”, stressed the coordinator of the Action Group for Animals of the Ecologists ‘Movement – Citizens’ Cooperation, Ms. Anthi Mouzouri.

“As an Ecologists ‘Movement – Citizens’ Cooperation, we will follow the case until it is clarified and justice is served.”
