Four years in prison for the former French prime minister


Former French Prime Minister Nicolas Sarkozy François Fillon he was sentenced today to four years in prison for the fictitious – as the court ruled – hiring his wife in his parliamentary office for a number of years.

His wife, Penelope, was also sentenced to two years in prison, while the court imposed a fine of 375,000 euros on each.

Pair Figionwho was not present at the trial, insisted – as in the first instance – that the employment was real and not fictitious, but without convincing the Court of Appeal.

If the Figion couple does not exercise their right to appeal the decision, they will be summoned to a sentencing judge, who can decide, for example, whether to wear an electronic bracelet or go to jail.
