The view that unanimity in the EU “in some key areas simply does not make sense if we want to be able to move forward faster” was expressed today by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Speaking at the Conference on the Future of Europe, von der Leyen noted that the European Union must continue on the path of reform and, among other things, “change the Treaties if necessary”.
As for Ukraine, he said that the future of the country “is the future of Europe”.
It is recalled that the EU member states could not reach an agreement on sanctions on Russian oil, as unanimity is required.
We need to go even further.
For example, I have always argued that unanimity voting in some key areas no longer makes sense, if we want to move faster.
Europe should also play a greater role in health or defense. pic.twitter.com/Tdeg6jIcWw
