In which areas did the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 increase in urban wastewater?


Declining trends, were observed mid weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in urban wastewater in five from the twelve areas which were checked by the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) ΕΟΔΥthe week of May 2-8, compared to the week of April 25 to May 1, 2022.

Growth trends were observed in six of the twelve regions and stabilizing trends were observed in one region.

Clearly declining trends were observed in Patras (-70%), Corfu (-49%) and Attica (-34%), while the decrease was marginal in Thessaloniki (-17%) and Ioannina (-16%). The trends in the average weekly viral load of urban wastewater were increasing in Agios Nikolaos (+ 327%), Heraklion (+ 144%), Chania (+ 48%) and Volos (+ 47%), while the increases were marginal in Xanthi (+ 27%) and Larissa (+ 21%). The viral load of urban wastewater remained virtually stable in Alexandroupolis (+ 2%).
