Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants to overturn Donald Trump’s Twitter ban. Musk, who takes over the social media company, calls the measure against the former US president a mistake.
“I think it was a bad decision morally,” Musk said in a virtual speech at a car future event on Tuesday. The Tesla boss said trust in the social media company would be undermined if people were permanently banned from Twitter.
Trump was banned from Twitter after being charged with sedition after seizing the Capitol in Washington on January 6. Facebook has banned it until at least 2023. Trump tried unsuccessfully to get his Twitter account back through a judge.
The former president launched his own social network last February: Truth Social. At the end of April, he announced that he would not return to Twitter, even if he recovers his account following the takeover by Musk.
The Tesla CEO bought Twitter in April for around $44 billion (about $41.7 billion). The acquisition still needs to be approved.
