Bulgaria: To Receive Liquefied Natural LNG Gas From US From June

Bulgaria will receive US liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from June to help it after Russian Gazprom cuts off gas supplies, the government announced today.

The settlement was agreed at a meeting in Washington between Prime Minister Kirill Petkov and US Vice President Kamala Harris, the government said.

“Actual deliveries of liquefied natural gas from June to Bulgaria at prices lower than those agreed with Gazprom,” the government said in a statement without elaborating.

Gazprom cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland on April 27th because the two countries refused to pay in rubles. Bulgaria consumes about 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year, more than 90% of which came from Russia.

Bulgaria is in talks with Azerbaijan to increase gas supplies and is seeking agreements to receive LNG through terminals in Greece and Turkey. It has also called for common EU gas purchases to make prices more competitive.
