NATO is a defense alliance and does not pose a threat to any other country, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said today as Sweden and Finland consider considering joining the Alliance after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“NATO is a defense alliance. NATO is not a threat to anyone. “It is there for mutual defense,” Johnson told a joint news conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki.
For his part, Niinisto stressed that Finland’s accession to NATO would not be “against anyone”.
Asked about the dangers of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Finnish president said: “My answer to Putin would be that you caused this and you have to look in the mirror.”
