The Gamaley National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology has already made one modification of the Sputnik-V vaccine against the Omicron variant, which is in the first phase of clinical trials, said today the director of Alexander Ginzburg, speaking on the TV channel “Russia-24”.
“At the moment there is no evidence that ικ Omicron will displace the Delta variant. “The vaccine may need to be given in two doses to protect against both the Delta strain and the Omicron strain,” said Ginzburg.
According to him, the first data on the effectiveness of the Sputnik-V vaccine against the Omicron variant may be available next week.
If the efficacy of the vaccine against this variant is two to six times lower than that against the Wuhan strain, then the vaccine formulation will not need to be modified, Ginzburg said.
