Ukrainian troops prevent the Russians from crossing the Donets River

Ukrainian troops destroyed parts of a Russian armored column attempting to cross the Siverskyi Donets River, photos and videos aired by the Ukrainian military broadcast.

Images include burnt-out military vehicles and parts of a partially flooded makeshift bridge. Press Agency Reuters was unable to independently verify the images.

The railway bridge connecting the banks of the Siverskyi Donets River had already been destroyed by a rocket attack.

Ukrainian forces have expelled Russia from Kharkiv, the country’s second largest city. It came in the fastest advance since Russian forces pulled out of kyiv and the northeast more than a month ago to focus their offensive on the Donets Basin near Russia.

Kharkiv, which was heavily shelled, has been quiet for two weeks. According to journalists from news agencies Reuters Ukraine now controls the area extending to the Siverskyi Donets River, about 40 km (25 mi) to the east. Russia continues to bomb villages north of Kharkiv.
