Hong Kong – Firefighting operation continues at World Trade Center


About 150 people were trapped on the roof of the Hong Kong World Trade Center today after a fire broke out in the building, which is located in the bustling shopping district of Kozwei Bay, police said.

Firefighters battled the blaze with two water cannons, the government said, using telescopic ladders and breathing apparatus to rescue those trapped.

According to the RTHK network, the police announced that about 100 people were moving from a restaurant to the 39th floor, when the fire broke out and smoke filled the room.

Seven women and a man are among the eight people taken to hospital, one of them half-willing, police said.

Outside the building the situation is calm, as firefighters have cordoned off the area. Note that initially there were reports of 300 trapped.
