New landing rules should ensure fewer flights from Schiphol

Schiphol has introduced new rules for take-off and landing rights, which should ensure that fewer flights depart from Schiphol this summer. Due to these new rules, slots of one airline will no longer be occupied by another airline if they are not used.

Airlines have a slot in which an aircraft can take off or land. Now that these can no longer be filled automatically, Schiphol believes airlines will return these slots earlier. “This leads to fewer thefts and allows for better planning.”

Airlines also retain the rights to a slot if they don’t use it this summer, Schiphol reports.

The new rules will apply from June 1 to August 28 and are part of a package of measures to reduce congestion at the airport. Other measures will be announced on Thursday.
