Cleaning helps to halve the risk of early death

Researchers from the Norwegian School of Sports Science in Oslo pooled eight studies involving more than 36,000 adults aged 40 and over to analyze the causal links between physical activity and the risk of death from any cause. For six years, participants wore a device to measure their daily movement in order to be classified according to their dynamism.

Results ? Scientists have linked physical activity (at any level) to reduced risk of death. More precisely, people who did 60 minutes of low-intensity activity and 5 minutes of moderate activity more than the least active group saw their risk of dying drop by 52%. For the most active people, the risk was reduced by 73%.

“These results really reinforce the saying ‘Doing something is better than doing nothing‘” said Dr Charlotte Edwardson, of the University of Leicester and co-author of the study.

“This study suggests that health can be optimized with just 24 minutes a day of brisk walking or other forms of moderate-intensity physical activity”, enthused Professor Tom Yates, co-author. According to the researchers, Doing more light activities such as tinkering, doing the dishes or other household chores can optimize your health.

Through this study, the scientists also noted that sitting for 9.5 hours a day more than doubled the risk of premature death. So, what are you waiting for to make your home shine?
