Morocco: The first case of the Omicron variant has been identified


Morocco has identified the first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health announced today

«This first case from the new Omicron strain was found in a Moroccan, whose health condition is stable and not a cause for concern.“, Is clarified in a press release of the ministry, which transmitted the MAP news agency.

The patient was placed under medical supervision in a hospital Casablanca, the financial capital of the country.

Authorities have decided to close the air and sea borders by December 31st «in order to safeguard Morocco’s achievements in the fight against the pandemic».

However, the government allows special return flights to foreign countries and exceptionally opened its borders to Moroccans trapped abroad on departure from three countries (Portugal, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates).

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health of Morocco urged citizens to respect prevention measures and to be vaccinated to avoid any possible deterioration of epidemiological situation.
