Morocco: First case of the Omicron mutation despite the closure of the border


The Morocco spotted her first case Omicron mutation of coronavirus, announced today the Ministry of Health.

«This first case of the new Omicron strain was detected in a Moroccan, whose state of health is stable and does not cause concern“, Is clarified in a press release of the ministry, broadcast by the MAP news agency.

The patient was placed under medical supervision in a hospital in Casablanca, the financial capital of the country. Authorities have decided to close the air and sea borders by 31 December «in order to safeguard Morocco’s achievements in the fight against its pandemic coronavirus».

Nevertheless, government allows special return flights to foreign countries and exceptionally opens its borders for Moroccans trapped abroad with departure from three countries (Portugal, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates).

On December 1, the World Health Organization stressed that the general travel bans do not prevent the circulation of the Omicron mutation.

Yesterday, the Moroccan Ministry of Health urged citizens to respect the prevention measures and to be vaccinated for to avoid any possibility of worsening of the epidemiological situation.
