Fauci: ‘No’ to booster dose specifically targeting Omicron mutation

The neutralizing effect of the two doses of the Moderna vaccine for Covid-19 is “significantly lower” than the Omicron variant, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) said today, citing data collected by the agency.

However, the boosting dose restores the action of the Moderna vaccine “within the range of neutralizing Omicron,” the top US epidemiologist told reporters at the White House.

According to Fauci, there is still no need for a booster dose that will specifically target this variant.

Earlier, CDC chief Rochelle Wallenski confirmed that, based on initial data, Omicron is more contagious than Delta and its cases have been identified in 36 US states.
