Mark Rutte recently arrived at the European Council, following the conclusion of the parliamentary debate on the formation of the new Dutch government.

“I have now arrived at the European Council, following the parliamentary debate on the formation of the new Dutch government. “I am grateful to my Belgian counterpart, Alexander de Kroos, who replaced me during my absence, and I am glad that I can still attend this European Council in Brussels,” the Dutch Prime Minister said in a Twitter post.

He added: “The European Council has a lot to discuss. First there is the situation on the border between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence must be the top priority. “It’s important to focus on de-escalation.”

“European coordination in the fight against coronavirus was also discussed, especially with regard to the Omicron variant. “Other issues are the situation in Belarus, energy prices, migration, the first draft of the Compass Strategy and the eurozone summit.”
