The Chinese imports of Russian oil increased by 55% in May over a year, against the backdrop of Western sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine, according to official figures released today.

Last month, The Asian giant bought about 8.42 million tons of oil from Russia, according to Chinese customs. This is a much larger quantity than the imports of oil from Saudi Arabia, which is usually China’s largest supplier.
