A worker was walking around the Capitol for several minutes today, with a pistol in his backpack, without being disturbed.
He was eventually arrested shortly afterwards, as it became known by the Capitol police, who launched an investigation into the incident.
At around 07:40 local time this morning, authorities “located a pistol in the X-ray scanner”, according to a press release. The owner was “located 4 minutes later and arrested,” police said.
The 57-year-old man, who works for the Capitol, told police he forgot the gun in his backpack.
An investigation is underway to shed light on the security vacuum and to understand why the 57-year-old was not arrested as soon as he passed the X-ray machine.
