China: Gas leak blast injures 23

The blast was caused by a gas leak due to faulty safety measures by a crew working in the area, according to estimates by local authorities conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

A powerful explosion shook the city of Tianjin in northern China today, injuring 23 people.

According to the announcement of the municipal authority, the explosion occurred at 4:45 in the afternoon (local time) at the intersection of Baodi district, as a result of which 23 people were injured, three of whom are being treated for severe burns. Another 15 are being treated for minor injuries and five have been discharged after receiving first aid.
