Mexican scientist convicted of Russian espionage in US

Hector Cabrera Fuentes, 37, has pleaded guilty. Recruited in 2019.

Distinguished Mexican scientist was sentenced yesterday Tuesday by American court to build four years in prison for espionage on behalf of Russia.

THE Hector Canberra Fuentes37 years old, he confessed his guilt on February. He was facing the accusation that acted on behalf of a foreign government without notifying the US authorities.

“I have deep regrets and regrets for what I did and I apologize to the United States.” he had said then.

“Everyone makes mistakes in their lives and that was my big mistake”, added the well-known biochemist in his field.

Hector Cabrera Fuentes, who lived in Singaporearrested in 2020 at Miami because he was spying, on behalf of Moscow, “US Government Source” according to a statement released by the US Department of Justice at the time.

A Russian official recruited the Mexican scientist in 2019.

He was serving a sentence of up to ten years in prison.
