Germany on threats from Russia: Do not take any action contrary to international law

The Kremlin said earlier in the day that EU sanctions were “absolutely unacceptable” and that Moscow was working on measures in retaliation.

Berlin “categorically rejects” Moscow’s threats of retaliation against Lithuania after the Baltic state banned the passage of products subject to EU sanctions from Russia to the Kaliningrad pocket, a German government spokesman said today.

“We urge Russia not to take any action that is contrary to international law,” he said.

The United States has reaffirmed its “support” for NATO member Lithuania in the face of Russian threats.
