The Liberal Democrat candidate, Helen Morgan, won by a narrow margin of nearly 6,000 votes in the Tory nominee in the run-up to Conservative MP Owen Patterson, accused of lobbying for pay.

The Tories had won this seat, in the North Shropshire area, with a difference of 23,000 votes in 2019.

“Tonight, the people of North Shropshire have spoken on behalf of the British people. “They said it loud and clear: ‘Boris Johnson, the party is over,'” Ms Morgan said in her closing remarks.

The Conservatives have won this seat in central England continuously since the constituency was created in 1983.

For many analysts, the Conservative vote of no-confidence is on the rise, with Mr Johnson on several fronts, especially after revelations about his associates’s Downing Street party last Christmas, when the country was officially in a lockdown.
