Ukrainian authorities say Russians dropped phosphorus bombs on Yunakivka community on Thursday in the Sumy region
The complaint was made by the head of the regional military administration in Sumi Dmytro Zhyvytsky.
“During the bombing of the Yunakivka community, the Russians used phosphorus shells!” wrote in the Telegram quoting a relevant video.
The use of phosphorus bombs is prohibited against civilians, in accordance with Additional Protocol III to the UN Convention, signed in 1980 and ratified in 1983. Their use is considered a war crime.
White phosphorus is a chemical element with the ability to cause more or less severe burns. Commonly used as a smoke bomb, it can create a smokescreen on the battlefield.
