The leaders of the European Union at the Summit in Brussels gave the green light to start the accession negotiations between Ukraine and Moldova.
The President of the European Council Charles Michel spoke of a historic moment emphasizing: “Agreement. The European Council has just decided to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. Historic moment. Today is a crucial step on your path to the EU.
He added that “the European Council has decided to recognize Georgia’s European perspective and is ready to grant candidate status as soon as the outstanding priorities are taken into account. Congratulations to the Georgian people. “A milestone in EU-Georgia relations: Georgia’s future lies within the EU.”

“I am very pleased with the support of our leaders. Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, all have work to do before moving on to the next stage of the process. I know they will move fast. They know how crucial this is to their democracies, their economies and their citizens. “This decision strengthens us all.”
The President of the Commission notes that the decision “strengthens Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in the face of Russian imperialism. And it strengthens the EU. “Because it shows the world once again that we are united and strong in the face of external threats.”
Satisfaction from Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the decision of European Union leaders to grant the country the status of a candidate for EU membership.
In his first reaction, Zelensky spoke of a unique and historic moment, adding that “Ukraine’s future lies within the EU.”

Santou: Moldova’s accession will bring prosperity
Moldovan President Maia Santou welcomed tonight the “historic” decision of the “27” of the European Union to grant the country the status of candidate for EU membership, emphasizing that “we have a difficult road ahead, which requires a lot of work and effort.”
In a Facebook post, President Santo said that Moldova’s accession to the European Union would bring prosperity, more opportunities and security to the small country between Ukraine and Romania.
