Outbreaks of avian influenza in duck poultry farm in France

0

France has detected the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus on a duck farm in the south-west of the country. The announcement was made by the competent ministry on Friday.

This is the first case of a duck farm in a current wave of the disease, affecting the southwestern region, which hosts most of the pate foie gras production in France.

It is recalled that a similar previous wave of bird flu last winter decimated entire flocks of ducks.

The UN recently reported cases in Europe and Asia. Norway has reported an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in the Rogaland region in a flock of 7,000 birds, while the Belgian government has put the country at increased risk by ordering owners to keep poultry indoors.

Similar incidents have been reported in Denmark and the Netherlands.
