WHICH FOR OMICRON – Spreads fast – We do not yet know its resistance to vaccines

Health systems will be under pressure in the near future as the Omicron variant spreads rapidly. This is the WHO warning in the states, while at the same time he adds that it is too early to know the resistance of the variant to vaccines.

According to the organization, the Omicron variant has already been identified in 89 countries, and while the number of cases doubles every 1.5-3 days in areas where there is transmission in the community.

Evidence shows that Omicron is spreading rapidly in countries with high levels of population immunity. It is not clear, however, whether this is due to the virus’s ability to evade immunity or its inherently increased transmissibility or a combination of the two.

Limited data on the severity of Omicron and resistance to vaccines

“There is still limited evidence for the clinical severity of Omicron,” he said. “We need more information to understand its severity and how it is affected by vaccination and pre-existing immunity.”

At the same time, there are still limited data available and there is no data that has been evaluated by experts on the effectiveness or durability of the vaccine to date.

The WHO warns that with cases rising at such a rate, hospitals will once again come under increasing pressure in some areas. Hospitalizations in the UK and South Africa are already rising and it is likely that many health systems in many countries will quickly come under increasing pressure.
