The Netherlands: Awaiting the announcement of a strict lockdown for Christmas

THE Dutch Government is expected to announce today a “strict” lookdown for Christmas, as it is expected that all stores will close, except the absolutely necessary ones, due to fears for the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, as reported by Dutch media.

The Dutch government is meeting today with health experts who have recommended that all non-essential shops, schools, bars, restaurants and other public places be closed.

National NOS TV and the ANP news agency quoted government sources as saying that a press conference announcing the new measures would be held at 7pm (local time), just days after announcing a partial lockdown.

The Dutch Ministry of Health did not comment on the proposed measures, but also at the time of the press conference.
