France: Macron to speak with Putin and Zelensky next week

Emanuel Macron has announced plans to hold a video conference with Vladimir Putin next week.

Its purpose is to support efforts to de-escalate tensions with Ukraine.

In a press conference with the Elysee, Macron said he would also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The French president described the situation on the border between Ukraine and Russia as “unstable”. He also noted that the US initiative to de-escalate the situation does not replace the so-called “Normandy Scheme”, the quadripartite in which Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia participate.
