Malaysia: Torrential rains force more than 21,000 people to flee their homes


More from 21,000 people displaced by floods triggered by torrential rains in Malaysia, as reported by the state news agency Bernama.

The province of Perak was the last to be hit by torrential rains, with the situation from the heavy rains becoming even worse in six other provinces.

“In total, more than 21,000 people were evacuated from their flooded homes to relief centers by noon,” the news agency reported.

More than 11,000 people fled their homes yesterday, with heavy rains starting Friday morning, blocking dozens of roads and causing transportation problems.

THE Prime Minister Ismail Sambri Yaakob said in a press conference in Selangor, Malaysia’s most populous and affluent district, which surrounds the capital Kuala Lumpur, that 15,000 people have been evacuated to more than 100 aid centers.
