At least 75 people have been killed in the Philippines by Hurricane Rai, the country’s worst-hit country this year, according to official reports.
The governor of the tourist island of Bohol, Arthur Yap, stated on his Facebook page that 49 people were killed and 10 are missing in this province, based on the data collected by the municipalities.
“Telecommunications have been cut off. “Only 21 municipalities out of 48 contacted us”, he clarified.
Based on these data, the provisional report amounts to 75 dead.
The hurricane, with winds of up to 195 kilometers per hour, hit the central and southern Philippines on Thursday and Friday, sweeping roofs, uprooting electricity pylons and telecommunications antennas. Aerial photographs released by the armed forces show significant damage in these areas. About 300,000 people were forced to flee their homes.
