Philippines – At least 108 people have been killed in Hurricane Rai


At least 108 people have been killed in the Philippines by Hurricane Rai, the worst-hit country this year, according to official figures.

The governor of the tourist island of Bohol, Arthur Yap, announced that 72 people lost their lives in the area, according to the report published by the authorities.

Sweeping winds

The hurricane, with winds of up to 195 kilometers per hour, hit the central and southern Philippines on Thursday and Friday, sweeping roofs, uprooting electricity pylons and telecommunications antennas.

Aerial photographs released by the armed forces show significant damage in these areas. About 300,000 people were forced to flee their homes.
