Iran – First Omicron case – More than 130,000 pandemic victims


Iran has confirmed the first case of the coronavirus due to the Omicron variant, the Ministry of Health announced today, while the authorities called on the Iranians to be vaccinated with the third dose in this country in the worst affected by the pandemic in the Middle East.

The case

Iranian Deputy Health Minister Kamal Heydari told state television that the person infected with the virus was a middle-aged Iranian who had recently returned to his country from the United Arab Emirates.

In quarantine

“The necessary measures have been taken to quarantine this person, who lives in Tehran and those who came in contact with him. “This is the first case of the Omicron variant to be found in Iran,” he said.

The deaths

Deaths from complications of covid-19 in the country have reached 131,084, the Ministry of Health announced, while the cases in the last 24 hours increased by 1,968 and reached 6,170,979.

More than 50 million Iranians out of a population of about 85 million have been vaccinated with both doses of the coronavirus drug.
