Australia: High vaccination rate prevents the need for restrictive measures

THE Australian Minister of Health stated today that there is no need download restrictive measures to celebrate Christmas, despite the increase in new COVID-19 cases in Sydney, as the high vaccination rate in the country, helps, keeping people out of hospitals.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said he was optimistic Australia would not have to follow in the footsteps of the Netherlands, which has imposed a new strict Christmas and New Year lockdown to curb the spread of the Omic variant. transmissibility.

“We are entering the summer, we have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world and a very different situation. “So we do not see this (lockdown) being possible for Australia,” Hunt told reporters during a televised interview.

The Netherlands, he said, had a higher number of infections and deaths than Australia during the pandemic and is now in the middle of winter, with cases of infections more likely to rise dramatically.

“We are well prepared and people are determined to continue to do an amazing job,” Hunt said, referring to more than 90% of Australians over the age of 16 who have been fully vaccinated.

Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales, reported a record 2,566 new outbreaks today, up from 2,482 yesterday. Incidents admitted to the intensive care unit remain at 28, while maintaining this small number is a “spectacularly positive” development, according to state Prime Minister Dominique Perote.
