Malaysia: 20-year imprisonment for “pirate” downloads

Pirates in Malaysia face up to 20 years in prison

The new law provides particularly severe penalties for those who pay illegally. Specifically, they will face fines from € 2,000 to € 50,000, prison sentences up to 20 years or both.

With the new provisions, streaming is included in piracy, something that until now was not the case. In addition, it intends to expose those who used corporate structures as a shield protection against the law.
